Easier maintenance, cheaper, not constantly thinking about gearing while riding, more efficiency in the drive train, among others. Also, for fixed-gear bikes specifically, they force you to pedal constantly, thus improving your pedaling technique, and more connectivity to the road. Also, at least for fixed gears, it's just fun in my opinion. I actually rode my Trek hybrid a couple days ago that I hadn't ridden for probably 4 months or so as I've only been riding my fixed gear, and honestly, I didn't like it anymore. This is after riding that bike for 1 1/2 years without any real complaints. There is just a special feeling about fixed gears.
Love Mike’s Hair in this one!

That thing sounds like shit……..sorry
so it kinda acts like a sustain??
Not really. Marshmallow is a mix of gelatine, water, sugar and flavouring (often vanilla extract).
You cook the sugar, then add the gelatine + water, add flavouring and whip it until it increases in volume. You then set the mixture for a few hours before it can be cut into blocks.
Meringe is just whipped eggwhite and sugar — and depending on what kind of meringue you're making (swiss, french or italian) the methods can be slightly different.
With swiss, the meringue is whipped in a bain marie.
With french, the meringue is whipped cold and then baked at low temps. It results in a very delicate texture.
With italian, the sugar is cooked to soft-ball (120 celsius) with a bit of water, then combined with pre-whipped whites, which cooks the eggwhites and the result is something like very stiff cream.
These work better for me than regular crunches.

I would say tool steel it's very hard but still machinable as to the second part of your question no some are just brass bushings or in the case of your car engine babit the rod bearings are in two halves and ride on a oil film
