This is the first attempt at powering a Singer industrial sewing machine with bicycle pedals. The drive system has had a few changes since to address some design shortcomings. I much prefer the mo...

Take a look at Kate Dicey's essay on choosing sewing machines at
(and take a look around at her site…
there are a lot of nice little tutorials there!). The FAQ she
refers to is at now.
What I want for beginners in sewing:
- a machine that doesn't scare you
- a machine that isn't balky (cheap new machines are often very
balky or need adjustments often and are rarely repairable — just
too frustrating to learn on!)
- very good straight stitch
- good zigzag (4-5 mm is fine, more than that is gravy)
- a method of making buttonholes that makes sense to you
- adjustable presser foot pressure (which helps some fabric
handling issues)
- accessory presser feet that don't cost an arm and a leg
(machines that use a "short shank foot" typically handle generic
presser feet pretty well. Some brands of machines use proprietary
or very expensive presser feet)
If the budget stretches far enough:
- blindhem and stretch blindhem stitches
- triple zigzag (nice for elastic applications)
- a couple of decorative stitches (you won't use them nearly as
much as you think)
- electronic machine because of the needle position control and
because the stepper motors give you full "punching force" at
slow sewing speeds — mechanical machines often will stall at
slow speeds.
Please go to the best sewing machine dealers around and ask them
to show you some machines in your price range, *especially* used
machines you can afford. You'll get a far better machine at a
specific price buying used than new and a good dealer is worth
their weight in sewing machine needles when you get a machine
problem — often they can talk you through the problem over the
phone. While you're trying things out, try a couple of machines
(sewing only, not combo sewing-embroidery) over your price limit,
just so you can see what the difference in stitch quality and
ease of use might be. You may find you want to go for the used
Cadillac. Or you might want the new basic Chevy. Might as well
try both out.
Suggested reading: John Giordano's The Sewing Machine Book
(especially for used machines), Carol Ahles' Fine Machine Sewing
(especially the first and last few chapters) and Gale Grigg
Hazen's Owner's Guide to Sewing Machines, Sergers and Knitting
Machines. All of these are likely to be available at your public
library.
Used brands I'd particularly look for: Elna, Bernina,
Viking/Husqvarna, Pfaff, Singer (pre 1970), Juki, Toyota
New "bargain brand" I'd probably pick, if new, decent and budget
was my choice: Janome (who also does Kenmore).
whats the last song you played called? thanks
u wan steal bike?? i give u bike!!
That doesn't sound like a very good idea to me, line powered (with battery back up) detectors are readily available and not too expensive.
Most rechargeables require the charging voltage be somewhat higher than the battery voltage, just connecting a rechargeable battery to the DC input gives the problem of either not reaching full charge, or over charging.
You could try using diodes to isolate the adapter and the battery (non-rechargeable), but due to the voltage drop of the diode, you may get a low battery warning if the power goes off, even with a good battery. Also, a cheap adapter may not provide very "clean" DC, and a battery powered smoke detector would have been designed assuming no ripple and a fairly stable voltage.
O.o!!!

Just go to the manufactures website and see if they have a manual you can download.
time flys when youre being lazy. still rocking my bicycle shorts and church socks. making love to this xbox. lmao
I have a Bernina 730E and absolutely love it. It sews beautifully and embroiders the same. It is a computer so you are able to edit the designs right on the large screen. I have two Berninas and love them both. Good luck with your search. There are lots of machines out there.
even if you drive into a lake & drown? I can actually stop my chevy using the brake pedal.
There is not a simple question to answer. You continually build upon your skills. Even when you are a seasoned sewer you still find some stumbling blocks. Sewing is an art. To say you don't want much fuss means you have an image of being able to sew like wham-bam. That doesn't happen. Using a pattern, learning to lay-out that pattern requires some time and practice.
Take a class being offered for a simple project. There you might get help.
To ask how long does it take to learn how to sew and read patterns indicates to me that you may not even know how to hand sew. Hand-sewing is the initial step. You need to become familiar with using needles and threads in your hand. There is a kit that teaches you that fairly quickly, look at the information at: http://www.ezstitchsampler.com
After learning those stitches, you may move on. You'll at least have some idea about sewing.

No such thing as a cheap colnago ! And shipping costs will defeat any "savings". NEVER buy anything from over-seas. If it's damaged or not what you really want, you will spend a whole season waiting for the matter to be settled.
Go to http://www.repairclinic.com to help you diagnose the problem (although it does sound like a timer issue). They will also sell you the part and provide instructions on how to change it out.

It may or may not have reverse, most did. Look on the main part of the machine. My mothers old machine had a "switch" that you pushed down for reverse and left up for forward. It was located on the main body of the machine on the left side just before the thread and needle area. Hope this helps. Do you have a local fabric store that sells sewing machines? Take a picture or the machine itself there and they might be able to help you find the reverse.
Bet he wouldn’t be half as sexy though.
There are no pilot lights on a gas stove that is powered by electricity. The fact that you got one burner to light is amazing. The electricity has a fail safe to provide for accidental suffocation by gas inhalation or explosions. If the electric fails, it automatically shuts off the gas to prevent those problems.

“In 1588 – year of the Spanish Armada – a compilation of these Italian works was translated in London that – remarkably – mentions Leonardo’s close associate Francesco di Giorgio as a pioneer of military science.
Leonardo worked closely with this Sienese polymath: it’s tantalisingly close to seeing Leonardo himself cited by the English warriors who used fireships against the Armada. And even without such a suggestive reference, the “fireworks” or incendiary weapons described in the book are very similar to some of Leonardo’s. The many Italian works it draws on are full of engravings of such devices that simplify his brilliant designs.
Henry VIII’s battleship the Mary Rose carried handguns with shields, made in Italy, that also resemble Leonardo drawings; a multi-barrelled gun in the Royal Armouries again uncannily resembled a Leonardo design. But, this is not surprising.
