9/16″ bicycle pedals – stripped crank arm thread?

I have a problem with a stripped crank arm. The thread is stripped where the pedal is attached.
It's the right crank arm, so no reason for reverse threads.
It's for a new beach cruiser, that I assembled brand new. The original stock pedal (R) clicks and became loose.
A second pair of pedals did the same, indicating that the crank arm is stripped.
How do I fix it? Or do I just brink it in to the shop? How much?
