My bicycle auto pedals. Is this a problem?

Not long ago I participated in a bicycling tour which began with an inspection of all bikes. The bike mechanic said mine "auto pedals", meaning when my bike is on a stand and the back wheel is spinning, the pedals slowly turn on their own.
It seems me this is caused by some resistance in the rear hub when freewheeling. Is this a problem? Will it lead to a bigger problem?

It probably is caused by friction within your rear hub. I wouldn’t start a tour with a faulty component like that.
It is not a big problem, but you should get it fixed.
there is a problem in the freehub, but it isnt like something that is going to get you stuck until it gets very bad. it may run a long while before the condition gets to the point of failure. depending you what your set up is, simply cleaning and lubing things may even solve it. as it progresses you will see more and more play, hear noises and the like, but it may run many miles as it is, in my experience.
Spray WD40 into the bearings of the freewheel.
